TATA IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma Celebrates Jaiswal's Comeback Century with Embrace
Yashasvi Jaiswal made a triumphant return to form just before the T20 World Cup 2024. In the RR vs MI match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaiswal delivered a stunning performance, scoring a century in the second innings. After facing difficulties in his initial seven matches of the Indian Premier League, Jaiswal displayed patience and determination, ultimately smashing an impressive 104 runs to successfully chase down the target of 180 runs.
Following the match, India captain Rohit Sharma warmly embraced Jaiswal, expressing his pride in the youngster's performance. Jaiswal had been a contender for the opening spot in the T20 World Cup squad, but his underwhelming performance in the first seven matches of the IPL had cast uncertainty on his fate. However, in the match against MI, Jaiswal exhibited composure and restraint, crafting a 60-ball innings that shifted the momentum decisively in favor of his team, eluding Hardik Pandya's side.
The youngster would hope that the selectors recognize his talent at the top of the batting order and give him a shot at the world tournament. Jaiswal has been in envious form since last year's Indian Premier League. The left-hander's 600+ run season in 2023 earned him an India cap. For India Jaiswal has been in imperious form, especially in the red-ball format of the game. The youngster was the best batter in the recently concluded India vs England Test series but was not able to translate that in the IPL this season.
Legendary Brian Lara also lauded Jaiswal after the knock, stating that it was the youngster's best innings in terms of approach this season. "Yeah, it's a beautiful innings by the young man. And, when I say, you know, you don't have to be that aggressive, he still scores at a very high strike rate. But the fact matter is taking his time, looking at the ball right close to the bat and he's playing proper cricket shots", said Lara.
The batsman must be optimistic that his streak of poor form has come to an end, and ideally, the century serves as a catalyst for a string of positive outcomes throughout this season. Currently, RR leads the IPL points table with 7 victories and only 1 loss in 8 games. Following RR are KKR, SRH, and CSK in the standings.
